NEWS RELEASE 13 April 2021 WORLD EXPO DUBAI STUNNING INNOVATIVE WORK BY DUTCH DESIGNERS AND ARTISTS In the Dutch pavilion of the World Expo in Dubai.
Designers and artists give a boost to technical innovations. Not only do they add great aesthetic value with their imagination. They also contribute to a broad acceptance of technology. For a more beautiful and better world. In October the World Expo opens in the desert of Dubai. The Dutch pavilion, DutchDubai, embodies the theme chosen by the Netherlands of 'uniting water, energy and food' and shows the connection that our country manages to make between sustainable energy, water management, agriculture and circularity. Designers and artists make an important contribution to this. Their work is reminiscent of the fragility and finiteness of the world. Against the bleak prospect of resource depletion - a very topical theme in the Middle East - they set concepts and innovations that stimulate the imagination and senses. Aesthetics needed for acceptance The art programme, curated by Monique Ruhe, appeals to all the senses. Immediately upon entering the sunken pavilion, visitors are surrounded by the scent of the Mastenbroek polder, an installation by Birthe Leemeijer. As a photographer, Kadir van Lohuizen captures the consequences of climate change and contemporary food production in a penetrating way. Joep van Lieshout's bells ring as if they are announcing the end of time. Theo Jansen's Strandbeesten are walking outside, made of PVC pipes and powered by wind. These artists show that in innovations, aesthetics may be even more important for broad acceptance than technology. A precondition for solving world challenges. The World Expo (World Expo) in Dubai will take place from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The Dutch pavilion is located in the Sustainability District and shares expertise in the field of water, energy and food - www.dutchdubai.com
